Albert O. Edwards, M.D., Ph.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist who has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. His expertise has been recognized by several agencies and publications including the list of Best Doctors in America. He has fellowship training as well as medical and surgical experience in retinal disease, uveitis, and ocular tumors. His research has been published numerous times and he holds faculty appointments at both the Oregon Health & Science University and the University of Oregon. Prior to moving to Eugene in 2009, Dr. Edwards was a faculty member at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Edwards enjoys spending his free time with his wife and daughter or enjoying the outdoors. He is also an avid cyclist and when not in clinic or performing surgery can often be found on his bike.

Alton Rossman, OD, graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2000. Prior to that he studied biology and literature at Pacific University. Dr. Rossman started his career in Montana but moved back to Salem and opened the West Salem Vision Center, which merged with Sterling Vision in 2019. Dr. Rossman practices general optometry for all patients, and specializes in scleral lenses, managing LASIK, glaucoma and dry eye. He enjoys clinical challenges, and has donated his eye care services internationally in underserved areas of Mexico. Dr. Rossman enjoys fly fishing, sports, amateur astronomy, skiing and motorcycles. Locally, he is involved in the Rotary Club of West Salem and served as a past president of the club.

Nick Hedberg, OD graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in human physiology before attending Pacific University to obtain his Optometric Degree. He enjoys the technical aspects of optometry and making a difference in peoples’ lives by helping them see better. Dr. Hedberg has volunteered his skills internationally to help those in need of eye care in Ghana, Guatemala and the Philippines. Dr. Hedberg’s services include comprehensive dilated eye exams, diabetic eye evaluations, contact lens fittings, glaucoma and macular degeneration monitoring and treatment, and emergency eye treatments. Positive, thoughtful and easygoing, Nick Hedberg has a friendly, upbeat and caring personality that is adaptable and blends well with a wide range of personalities. He grew up in Eugene, Oregon and truly enjoys serving people of the community he was raised in. Dr. Hedberg enjoys weekend adventures to central Oregon or the coast, hiking, skiing, gardening, cooking, and sports, specifically his beloved Ducks. Dr. Hedberg has a son and daughter, Maxwell and Cora.

David Hackett, OD, FCOVD graduated from the Oklahoma College of Optometry in 2014 after completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at Kansas State University. While in Oklahoma, Dr. Hackett completed a two-month Vision Therapy externship with Dr. Ron Bateman, worked with the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) as the National Student Liaison, published several articles, and was awarded the COVD Award for Excellence in Vision Therapy. Prior to relocating his family to Eugene, Dr. Hackett was part of a large multidisciplinary practice in Kansas City, and served as a clinical instructor to residents of the University of Missouri: Kansas City (UMKC) Department of Ophthalmology in contact lens fitting. During his graduate studies, he participated in the Special Olympics Healthy Eyes Exams, and traveled twice to Roatán, Honduras to provide optometric care to underserved areas of the island. When he’s not at work, you can find Dr. Hackett around Eugene, at the Saturday Market, or on a bike trail. He is excited to be a part of the Eugene community, so feel free to stop him and say hi.

Prior to becoming an optometrist, James Sharp, OD graduated from Oregon State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics and again in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Before returning to school to study optometry he worked as an engineer for a small materials testing laboratory. Dr. Sharp graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2014, having been a research assistant at the college’s Vision Performance Institute. He received the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association’s Student of the Year award and the Beta Sigma Kappa Award for Exceptional Research. Dr. Sharp is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association. When Dr. Sharp isn’t seeing patients, he enjoys spending time with his family, camping, hiking, mountain biking and exploring Oregon’s nature.

Darrin Fleming, OD received his doctorate at U.C. Berkeley, and was on the faculty there for five years while practicing in the area. He has been in Eugene since 1995, mostly managing patients with glaucoma, cataracts, and chronic eye conditions and diseases. He enjoys working with challenging cases, and believes that communication is the most important part of what we do as eye care providers. Dr. Fleming is a member of the American Optometric Association and has served for multiple years on the board of the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association. He has represented the profession with our legislators for many years, both in the state capitol and in Washington D.C. Outside of the profession, Dr. Fleming sings in a local choir, and has acted in and helped produce several movies with local independent companies.

Peter Glennie, OD, graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1987, and began his practice in Lewiston, ID before returning to Salem in 1992. Dr. Glennie’s practice merged with Sterling Vision in 2019, and he is excited to welcome his long-standing patients (as well as new ones) into the Sterling family. Dr. Glennie specializes in primary care optometry, contact lenses and co-management of cataract and refractive surgery. At the core of his practice is building trusted relationships and providing exceptional patient care with patience and attention to detail. He enjoys skiing, golf, basketball, wake surfing and spending time with family.

Justin Etzel, MD is a board certified ophthalmologist who was raised in the Willamette Valley and initially discovered his interest in medicine in high school while working as a clinic assistant at a local optometry office. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Willamette University in 2012, where he completed his thesis research as a Murdock Scholar at the Oregon Health & Sciences University studying embryonic development. He then spent two years working as a research scientist at the University of Washington in Seattle before attending medical school at the Penn State University College of Medicine. His interest in eye care grew while in medical school as he participated in research projects aiming to uncover the origins of Age-Related Macular Degeneration, before graduating in 2018. Dr. Etzel completed his internal medicine internship at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and his ophthalmology residency at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania before moving back to Oregon to provide comprehensive ophthalmologic care. Outside of practicing ophthalmology, Dr. Etzel enjoys cycling and photography, and spends most of his free time with his wife and two Vizslas camping, hiking, and traveling outdoors.
